Every presentation was inspirational and so informative for the community of autistic people in South Africa.

West Park School Training Day
West Park School is nestled in the lush green suburb of Queensburg, on the outskirts of Durban. The school has no boarding facilities but operates an extensive bus service to collect and deliver children each day.
The day’s training began with an overview of AAC, basic terminology and strategies linked to the resources purchased (Boardmaker Software). In addition to the Go Talk pocket, the school had also been given three speech generating devices (tech talk range), an iTalk 2 and switches by their district office and did ask if we could show them how these worked.
The day ended with a lesson on the use and functions of Boardmaker Software – Using templates and designing your own boards. Participants were informed of the capabilities of Boardmaker Speaking Dynamic Pro.

Workshop: AAC: Introduction to Communication (03 November 2014)
We recently conducted a training day at Open Gate Special School, situated in the middle of Pietermaritzburg’s central business district. With nearly 300 learners and a large staff, the participants had varied experience of working with learners with special needs – some as little as 9 months and others with well over 25 years. All required training on how to use and implement the Assistive Technology they had recently purchased from us.
The day’s training began with an overview of AAC (Augentative and Alternative Communication), basic terminology and strategies linked to some of the resources they are currently using. Due to the large number of participants, our excellent trainer, Jocelyn, divided the participants into 5 groups and stations. Each group had the opportunity to learn at each station.
