GRID 3 is a collection of ready-made interfaces which allow people who are not able to communicate verbally, to do so through a computer. There are pages made with symbols for people who are not literate, and pages with text, for those who are. You can save your frequently used phrases for convenient use – GRID 3 will even offer you the most relevant phrases to say depending on your location – it knows when you’re in a coffee shop to predict phrases about ordering a coffee… so much detail that takes care of the little things… so you can get on with enjoying life.

With Grid 3 you can pick and choose from a range of accessible apps that help you to do everything from taking a quick snap on the camera, phoning a friend using an Android phone, sending a text, emailing a photo or checking your Facebook . It is easier than ever to stay in touch with family and friends. Everything in Grid 3 is designed to be accessed with eye gaze, touch, switch or other mouse pointers, so everyone can stay connected. The library of Accessible apps will continue to grow as we develop new ways to access existing social media platforms and useful tools for work and home.
Designed for Access – Puts you in Control
Grid 3 has been designed to work effortlessly with every type of alternative access. From pointing devices such as a range of different mice, to touch screens, eye gaze to switches; Grid 3 has innovative new features that make alternative access easier and more effective for all.
Any device that acts as a mouse to move the pointer can be used with Grid 3. You can choose how cells are highlighted, with options for magnifying a cell and changing the colour of the border or background. This is useful if needing to adjust the contrast and size of targets for people with a visual impairment.
If you use touch to control your device, Grid 3 has settings to make things easier. We have created a built-in Virtual Key Guard that disregards unwanted screen presses. You can also choose whether you want your first touch, or when you lift off the screen, to be the action that makes a selection. This helps people with poor fine motor control, tremors, involuntary movement etc. to be much more accurate when using a touch screen tablet.
Eye Control Technology & Grid 3
Grid 3 can be accessed using a choice of eye gaze cameras. Eye gaze settings are all available from within Grid 3, so you can tweak them on the go, like with our convenient Eye Gaze Monitor, which shows you how you are positioned in front of the camera. How you make a selection is also up to you. Now, in addition to the Dwell visual indicator, you have the option of using our innovative new feature, Zoom to Click, when controlling your computer.

Scanning with switches in Grid 3 is a new experience, with features that have not been available until now. Such as the Scan Progress Indicator – an innovative tool that helps you anticipate when the item you want will be highlighted. There are also many other settings in Grid 3 to make scanning more efficient for you. You can group cells into blocks, rows and columns, advance the scan automatically or manually, use additional switches and adjust switch timings.
Voice activation with Hey Grid 3
You can also control Grid 3 and activate cells with your voice using our Hey Grid 3 voice activation feature.
We call voice activation ‘Hey Grid 3’ because that’s the preset wake up phrase – so Grid 3 isn’t always listening and responding to everything you say – but you can change it to whatever you like!
The voice activation tools are particularly useful for individuals who have speech but use assistive technology to control their environment.

One of our favourite features! If you communicate using symbols, you can now send and receive symbolised messages in email and social media apps for the first time, opening up a whole world of communication that hasn’t been accessible before. For anybody that has had a stroke or who has limited literacy, this symbol-supported way of constructing messages removes barriers and assist people to feel connected. People who receive your messages will not see the symbols you have used to construct the message; and messages you receive will automatically have symbols added to aid your understanding. And it is even possible to set the skin tone of every symbol that represents people – a huge benefit for making symbol communication feel relevant, no matter the ethnicity of the user. Just brilliant!
